Hey JOLTers!

As we reach the end of World Alzheimer’s Month, we want to take a moment to raise awareness for something that hits right at the heart of why we do what we do.

September was all about bringing brain-related diseases into the spotlight- conditions that directly impact longevity and, most importantly to us, our quality of life.

We want to highlight the powerful story of Jordan and Cian (also known as @theftdbrothers).

Even though Jordan and his brother have been diagnosed with familial frontotemporal dementia (FTD)- which is different from Alzheimer’s disease- both are progressive brain disorders that completely change lives. While Alzheimer’s mainly starts with memory loss in older adults, FTD primarily impacts behaviour and language, often striking at a much younger age.

Growing up, Jordan and Cian had a fantastic childhood. Their mom was a vibrant, big character who filled the room. But as time went on, they started noticing significant changes in her behaviour. After months of back-and-forth with different GPs and consultants, they finally got the heartbreaking diagnosis: early-onset frontotemporal dementia, with a reality that her health would steadily deteriorate over a 6 to 10-year period.

By the age of just 15 and 9, Jordan and Cian had a duty of care for their mom- doing everything from helping feed her to taking her to the bathroom.

"A Licence to Live"

Facing that kind of hardship at such a young age, and later receiving their own diagnosis, could have broken them. Jordan admits his life was spiraling out of control for a while until everything changed. Instead of letting the diagnosis consume him, he decided to use it as a licence to live.

As Jordan and Cian always say- and as we echo loudly here at JOLT- f*ck dementia.

It’s time for all of us to stop taking time for granted, start prioritising every single day, and take active control of our quality of life, cognitive health, and overall well-being.

Why Brain Health is the Ultimate Longevity Goal

When people talk about longevity, they often focus on physical appearance or fitness. But true longevity means nothing without cognitive health. Protecting your mind, supporting your brain function, and staying sharp are the real keys to living a full, vibrant life for as long as possible.

Stories like Jordan and Cian's are a reminder that brain health isn't something to think about "later in life"- it's something we need to protect, support, and cherish every single day.

While we can’t control everything life throws at us, we can control how we live right now.

Living Each Day to the Fullest

Healthy aging and brain health aren't about living in fear. They're about being proactive and fully participating in your life while you can:

  • Cherishing the moments with the people you love.

  • Fueling your body and mind with the right daily habits.

  • Staying curious, active, and engaged.

  • Refusing to wait for a wake-up call to start really living.

Raising Awareness Together

Bringing stories like the FTD Brothers' to light reminds us why keeping your mind and body primed matters so much. Brain diseases affect millions of families, but Jordan’s shift in perspective- turning a life-altering diagnosis into a catalyst to live fully- is a powerful inspiration for us all.

So as World Alzheimer’s Month wraps up, here’s your reminder: Don't wait for "someday." Look after your brain, cherish your health, and make today count.

Stay curious.

Stay moving.

Prioritise your mind.

Live every single day to the fullest.

Until next time,

The JOLT Team⚡️
